Whispers in the Gloom

A runaway mage, Wren, finds an injured rebel captain, Theron, in the cursed forest, and they must quickly decide if they can trust each other to survive the unknown entity hunting them.

Wren, the runaway mage, cautiously steps through the dark, gnarled trees of a cursed forest, her silver hair illuminated faintly by her flickering ward light. She hears a faint sound.

Wren discovers an injured man, Theron, leaning against a tree, clearly in pain, his arm clutched. He looks up, startled, his eyes narrowed in suspicion.

Wren stops, her magical light casting strange shadows on them both. She holds her hand up, a gesture of peace, but her expression remains cautious.

A guttural growl echoes from deeper within the forest, making the leaves rustle ominously. Theron's eyes widen, and he pushes himself off the tree, wincing.

Wren gestures with her hand, a subtle magical shimmer momentarily protecting them. She looks at Theron, a silent question in her eyes.

Theron nods, gritting his teeth against the pain. He glances at the forest edge, then back at Wren, a flicker of trust replacing some of his initial suspicion.

They quickly pick their way through the tangled undergrowth, Wren looking back nervously and Theron grimacing from his injury but pushing forward. The sounds of something large moving through the forest draw closer.

They reach a small, precarious cliff edge overlooking a chasm. The growling predator bursts through the trees behind them. Wren and Theron exchange a desperate glance, trapped.
