Webtoon Artist Handoff Specification

A practical format for turning a script into something an artist can direct, question and draw without guessing what the writer meant.

Short answer

An artist handoff should identify each shot, visible action, camera, acting beat, exact dialogue, continuity constraints and references.

What belongs in the brief?

One scene should be specific enough that a writer and artist can point to the same frame and make a decision. The specification is intentionally portable: use it in a document, spreadsheet, production tool or BuildToon Creator Pack.

SequenceNumber every shot in reading order so the artist can discuss a specific moment.
ActionDescribe what changes in the frame, using visible verbs instead of a general mood.
CameraName the shot size, angle, point of view and important composition.
EmotionState the acting beat and whose reaction matters.
Exact dialogueKeep the words outside the image prompt so the artist can letter them accurately.
Props and continuityList objects, outfit details, location geography and anything that must not change.
ReferencesAttach clean character, location or prop references with a short explanation of what each reference controls.

Minimal shot example

Shot 03
Action: Mina closes her hand around the glowing bracelet as Jun stops at the far end of the platform.
Camera: Medium close-up on Mina, eye level; Jun remains readable in the background.
Emotion: Mina recognizes him but hides the shock.
Exact dialogue: "You came back."
Props: Crescent bracelet, wet umbrella.
Continuity: Mina wears the red coat from shots 01–02; bracelet stays on her left wrist.

This is a planning reference, not a claim that generated art is final publication-ready artwork. The writer and artist still make the final creative and rights decisions.
